FIC announces the 1st WiMAX embedded Slate to the world during Computex
Date: 2010/6/4
FIC launches first of many 4G Mobile Broadband Slates and Handheld Devices
Taipei, Taiwan, June 4, 2010 – First International Computer, Inc. (FIC), a world leader in the design and production of electronic devices, today announced the launch of their next generation Slate PC product line with embedded 4G mobile broadband connectivity based on Beceem’s industry leading BCSM250 4G-WiMAX single chip solution. The new FIC Slate PC, which is being launched at this year’s Computex show, is ushering in a new product line of ultra connected FIC computing and entertainment platforms that are designed to take advantage of the rapidly growing global 4G footprint.

The FIC Tycoon offers the ultimate entertainment and productivity applications, and is the first slate PC enhanced with an embedded Mobile WiMAX modem that is using Beceem’s latest Mobile WiMAX chipset. The life demo during Computex gets on Fitel WiMAX network over the city of Taipei. It can get 2Mbps while running at 100KM speed.”, said Alex Dee, Vice President of Marketing for FIC. “FIC is a constant innovator in the computing and consumer electronics field, and being able to embedded 4G connectivity into our state-of-the industry devices is going to be a key differentiator for our products. After careful evaluation of the different 4G product offerings and suppliers we have chosen to align with Beceem given their industry leading single-chip solution that will allow us to ship into the fast growing 4G network footprint globally. In addition we believe that Beceem’s upcoming BCS500 multi-mode 4G WiMAX/LTE chip would be ideal to allow us to build future Slate PCs that can seamlessly connect to the global 4G network footprint, independent of the underlying network being based on WiMAX or LTE”.

“FIC’s Slate PC is going to be a showstopper at Computex,” said Lars Johnsson, Vice President of Marketing for Beceem Communications. “Equipped with all the innovative features of a state of the art computing platform it is the embedded 4G mobile broadband capability that really sets it apart from other ‘PADs’ and Slates. We believe that FIC will be a key partner for Beceem with the ability and foresight to build industry defining products. We are excited that FIC has recognized the unique performance and feature capabilities of our products and roadmap to become their long-term 4G connectivity partner”.
